Monday, June 18 Pioneer Day
On this day we remember and celebrate the early settlers who came to this spot along the Great Miami River, and made it their home.  They build their log structures and began to make a permanent life here in the valley.

It's hard to believe, but two of those very early log cabins are still standing after 200 years, and may be seen and toured at the Heritage Village.  Both these structures were built very near the river, and have survived in spite of the 1913 Flood, which destroyed many buildings. (Heritage Village is at the corner of Old Main and Lock St.)

On Pioneer Day we'll reflect on the courage of those early settlers and the skills they needed to succeed.  Heritage Village will be open from noon to 5 p.m., and there will be activities there, as well as at Riverfront Park, which is in walking distance of the Village.  Be sure to visit both venues.  Heritage Village will feature Tours of the cabins, a Petting Zoo and crafters demonstrating the skills of the 1800s settlers.  Horse drawn carriage rides will be available during the afternoon.

Riverfront Park will also feature 1800s crafters along with the Great Lakes Timber Show.  Patty Frazee, a reenactor, will be there, as well as Paddy's Square Dance Caller.  Center Stage entertainment, from 4:30 to 11 p.m. that evening will include the Vintage Ramblers, Noah Wortherspoon and dulcimer music.
