The tour covered by this brochure starts at the Market Square Building going
south on Main Street, down Old Main Street to the Gebhart Tavern. Then east on
Lock Street over the old Miami Erie Canal, past the Peerless Mill Inn in the old
Hoover-Gamble complex, north on Third Street to Linden Avenue. Then past the
home of Dr. John Treon and the Trinity United Church of Christ, north on Second
Street to Central Avenue and west back to Market Square.
The tour brochure gives historical information about buildings and homes along
the route. Many of the buildings have been illustrated by society member and
gifted artist, Johanna Upton.
The Walking Tour Committee consisting of George and Marcia Dunahue, Phil and
Nancy Johnson, Ross and Betty Morris, and Everett and Bobbye Sweny researched
information for the brochure.
Chuck Sweny provided the layout of the brochure, which has been dedicated to the
memory of George Dunahue. Our sincere thanks go to Babcock and Wilcox who
provided the funds to cover the cost of printing.
The brochure was designed specifically for visitors to our city who would like
to learn something about our history; however, local residents might also enjoy
taking the tour to reacquaint themselves with our rich heritage.
Brochures are available at the Market Square Building.
